Nidhāya daṇḍaṃ bhūtesu, tasesu thāvaresu ca

Who has laid aside the cudgel in his dealings with beings,
Whether feeble or strong, who neither injures nor kills, I call a Saint. (Dhp 405)

Aviruddhaṃ viruddhesu, attadaṇḍesu nibbutaṃ
Sādānesu anādānaṃ, tam ahaṃ brūmi Brāhmaṇaṃ. (Dhp 406)
Who is friendly among the hostile, who is peaceful among the violent,
Who is unattached among the attached — I call a Saint. (Dhp 406)
